Greening the Islands Foundation

  Highlights

The 100% RES Islands Initiative

Islands are ideal case studies to showcase the technical and economic feasibility of transitioning towards 100% renewable energy systems, starting from the decarbonization of the power sector.

A global initiative that aims at accelerating the complete decarbonization of islands.

Islands are ideal case studies to showcase the technical and economic feasibility of transitioning towards 100% renewable energy systems, starting from the decarbonization of the power sector.

GTI aims at identifying concrete projects with the involvement of an Island Multi-Stakeholder Committee (IMSC) to engage local communities on each selected island.

Frontrunner Islands

Islands will be selected to create case studies in different regions of the world (The Caribbean, Europe and Atlantic Ocean, Indian Ocean, and Asia Pacific).

Some islands have already shown interest and GTI plans to present the first case studies at the GTI Observatory Summit 2024 while bringing intermediate findings at COP 28

Concept

Islands as laboratories to showcase that the transition to 100% renewable energy systems is technically and economically feasible as well as a key driver for resilience
