Photovoltaic Energy: Driving Spain’s System Stability, Flexibility, and Reindustrialization

Spain’s Photovoltaic Opportunity: 70 GW Demand

The General Director of UNEF, José Donoso, emphasized the reindustrialization opportunities presented by photovoltaic energy in Spain. “There is a 70 GW demand, attracted by the low energy prices offered by photovoltaics in Spain,” he stated.

Beatriz Corredor, Chair of Redeia, highlighted the fast-track implementation of the new PO 7.4, which will allow renewables to participate in voltage control, enhancing system reliability and flexibility.

Alberto Nadal, Deputy Secretary for Economy and Sustainable Development of the Popular Party, stressed that photovoltaic energy “is and must be the backbone of the Spanish electricity system.” He added that increasing demand, expanding interconnections, and developing storage solutions are essential for further growth.

The XII Solar Forum gathered over 1,000 attendees, including public officials, industry leaders, and experts, providing a platform to discuss environmental assessments, project financing, and local integration of renewable projects.

Energy storage, both for self-consumption and industrial decarbonization, was a key topic, along with the feasibility of photovoltaic component manufacturing in Europe following the Net Zero Industry Act (NZIA).

The XIII Solar Forum will take place on 7–8 October 2026.
